Hi Steve,

If you are running ubuntu under windows, maybe this is what
Daniel mentioned. Try setting AFNI_WEBBY_WAMI to NO.
As a test, run afni with it temporarily set:

afni -DAFNI_WEBBY_WAMI=NO
