WHO WE ARE

At IIT, we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

YOUR TEAM

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where computational, and experimental neuroscientists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The Functional Neuroimaging Research Line is coordinated by Dr. Alessandro Gozzi, who has extensive experience in fMRI, neuroscience and the application of neuroimaging to investigate brain connectivity and its disruption in brain disorders. Research activity in the lab aims at identifying the neural and cellular principles governing the assembly of brain-wide functional connectivity. Dr. Gozzi’s lab addresses these questions at the level of identified cell types by combining neural manipulations in rodents with electrophysiological recordings, functional MRI and cutting-edge neuro-computational approaches.

The selected candidate will work in the framework of the ERC-founded project “Neural drivers of functional dysconnectivity in brain disorders” (DisConn), Grant Agreement 802371.

For reference to recent work relevant to this project, please see Rocchi et al. Nature Communications (2022), Gutierrez-Barragan et al., Current Biology (2022).

You will be working on collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects to understand how defined macroscale networks respond to targeted neuromodulation. Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

 • To optimize and apply statistical methods to map network reconfiguration in fMRI timeseries acquired in the mouse
 • Communicate your results in oral and written form

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 • A PhD in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Physics, Neuroinformatics or equivalent
 • Proven record in the analysis and mapping of functional images of the brain
 • A strong knowledge of statistical methods applied to neuroimaging and related coding platforms
 • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
 • Good command in spoken and written English

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Experience in machine learning and advanced statistics will be highly valued
Ability to interact with both experimental and computational neuroscientists
Good communication skills
Strong problem solving attitude
High motivation to learn
Spirit of innovation and creativity
Sharp time and priority management
Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment

SALARY & BENEFITS
