Open position

NorthTide Group is looking for an Image Analyst with experience in advanced image analysis methods. The location is at The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) within the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. The neuroimaging research lab seeks to identify clinically relevant biomarkers for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) by integrating multimodal neuroimaging. The goal is to develop diffusion imaging measures that can be used to assess neurological changes, develop biomarker using methods such as diffusion tensor imaging, structural MRI (cortical thickness, brain volumetric information, etc.) and fMRI to identify measures that can be used to diagnose and assess changes related to TBI and develop biomarkers for diagnosing and characterizing the effects of TBI.

Responsibilities:

Performs Susceptibility Weighted Imaging (SWI) analysis on clinical data and transfer to local PACS for clinical interpretation.
Develop and implement methods for the analysis of diffusion imaging data consisting of single and multi-shell data.
Develop advanced techniques to combine tractography results with other anatomical and functional modalities in a statistically rigorous manner.
Develop image processing scripts and statistical methods and identify relevant features that can be used to characterize injuries due to mTBI.
Other duties may include optimizing protocols, monitoring quality control, and participating in research report authorship, potential for travel.

Experience:
Direct experience performing analysis of neuroimage data.
Developing diffusion imaging measures used to diagnose and assess changes related to TBI
Developing processing scripts and analysis methods for high-order diffusion models such as diffusion kurtosis and the mean apparent propagator.
Identifying relevant features that can be used to characterize injuries due to mTBI
Implementing and developing advanced techniques to combine tractography results with other anatomical and functional modalities in a statistically rigorous manner.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Degree in Medical Physics, Bioengineering, Neuroscience or similar area.

Expertise in image analysis using neuroimaging software packages such as AFNI, FSL, DTI-TK, DSI Studio, Freesurfer, SPM etc. is desired. Experience with statistical analysis using a common analysis package (SPSS, R, or similar) preferred. Proficiency in a scientific programming language (e.g. Python, Java, MATLAB) in a Linux/Mac environment, strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a rigorous background check required.
