"Can't open display"

Hello,

Can someone help? I followed all of the installation steps here: https://afni.nimh.nih.gov/pub/dist/doc/htmldoc/background_install/install_instructs/steps_mac.html#install-steps-mac.

I also ran a check and received the message, “nothing to fix, yay!”

Here is the error I received:

Hi Eric,

What OS X version are you running? Are you remotely
logged in?

If you are logged in to the machine directly, and are on an
older version, it may be necessary to start XQuartz. Can
you verify that?

Thanks Rick. I’m on 10.12.3, logged in to the machine directly. Opening XQuartz worked!

Did you just install or update XQuartz? This might be a “first
time running it” issue. I would not expect you to need to start
XQuartz again (i.e. running afni or a related program should
start it automatically). Or maybe that requires a reboot, I am
not sure.

That usually means that a reboot will fix it so XQuartz automatically launches in the future.
